Calculate powder weight needed to spray surface area
I need to calculate powder usage to spray ball valves with 1350 VM powder using JP 5000 HVOF system.
The ball valves are 10, 8, 6 and ,75 inch in diameter. The coating thickness needs to be 450 micron. Is there some type of formula. its for a costing to quote a customer. Thanks. | |||

1. Calculate surface area (A = 4 X pi X r^2).
2. Calculate coating volume (V = Surface Area X coating thickness). 3. Calculate coating weight (W = Coating Volume X coating density). 4. Calculate powder weight (Wpowder = Wcoating / (DE X TE)) where DE is 40% (typical deposit efficiency of JP) and TE is a target efficiency factor (how much time the gun is pointed at the part divided by the total powder feeding time). 5. Multiply powder weight by powder cost to achieve powder cost. | |||
