3/16" wire metal spraying
Dear All;
Could you please share your experience about using 3/16" (4,76 mm) arc-wire system compared to 1/8" (2,3 mm) arc sytem?
Regards
Tolga Diraz

RE: 3/16" wire metal spraying
Hi diraztol
Welcome to the Surface Engineering Forum.
I have no experience with the 3/16 arc wire coatings. I'm led to believe that relative coating quality is not an issue. Generally, wire size goes up with power and spray rate. I think 3/16 arc wire would only be advantages when spraying zinc and aluminium coatings at very high spray rates with power levels around 500A and upwards.

RE: 3/16" wire metal spraying
Mr. Gordon;
Thanks for the response. You are quite right that we do use current levels above 500 A with 3/16" Aluminium wire. The service engineer from Metallisation have claimed that generally you do get finer(less porous) coatings with small diameter wire? Is that correct?
Regards

RE: 3/16" wire metal spraying
Hi Diraztol
I would expect to be able to produce finer coatings using smaller diameter wire, but this is also very dependent on the equipment design and parameters selected (atomising gas pressure/flow, air caps etc.).

RE: 3/16" wire metal spraying
Danns;
We are both using pure aluminium and pure zinc at our paintshop from time to time. But zinc is more oftenly used since we are asked to metallize the flanges of windtowers in paralel with our customers anti-corrosion specifications.TSA is less frequent at our job. (say 6 months between applications.)

Thanks
