Question Can rate of deposit be calculated?
I was wondering if rate of deposit can be calculated. I know the powder, nozzle, pressures, gas flows, spray distance range, spray rate lb/hr, coverage ft2/hr/0.001", deposit efficiency, part size, surface speed of part, etc. What plays a factor and what inputs result in the ability to calculate rate of deposit in unit of inch per pass?
Thank you.

Hi junebrooks

Sign0016 to the Surface Engineering Forum.

Well in theory, the coverage ft2/hr/0.001" stated for a specific powder and equipment under strictly control parameters should allow you to calculate rate of deposit in unit of inch per pass. You should only need to know the surface area and time to cover one pass.

In practice I would only use the stated coverage value as a rough guide. For accurate results you really need to take measurements from actual spraying under your specific conditions.
