Metallurgical Service: Coating Condition, Quality, and Failure Analysis
Posted by: hwang - 04-20-2007, 12:03 PM - Forum: Products and Services - No Replies

Dear Gordon and Group:

Just would like to make you aware of ERA's activity in this regard. We are well equipped with stereo, light and scanning elctron microscopes to conduct metallography, composition, and microstructure analysis of coatings from thermal spray for applications in pumps, turbines, printing rolls, and general industry machinery for environmental degradation resistance attack.

We could conduct 3rd party coating failure investigation, quality evaluation, coating and process identifcation, reverse engineering, condition evaluation, and remnant life assessment of components and coatings.??

We have good experience in thermal spray but also beyond (anodising, PVD, CVD, eletrophoretic, pack diffusion, thermochemncial treatment etc). We have expertise in wear, corrosion, high temperature oxidation, hot corrosion, metal dusting, and (also conduct) general mechanical testing (creep, fatigue, etc).

If you have a potential need of examination of a new, ex-service, or failed coating (or others not listed) and would like to find out how ERA could help, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you for your attention,

Hong Wei
Senior Metallurgist

  Right blast abrasive material
Posted by: ANS - 04-09-2007, 07:38 AM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (3)

Hi,

Just like to know what is the right type of abrasive for surface preparation with requirement of SA 2.5 - SA 3 with angular and sharp profile 65-120 micron. The preparation is for metalizing application and metal finish requires near white metal SSPC-10 or white metal SSPC-5. Thanks in advance for your input.

Dear All,
what is the minimum temperature to which Arc sprayed shaft with 13% Chrome steel can be subjected while carrying out shrink fitting.
Will there be cracks due to change in properties? what is the best material for this appication

  Boiler tube failure
Posted by: Flo24 - 03-29-2007, 07:24 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (8)

Hi,

I've been working on a project of biomass cofiring with coal. The operators notice an increase in the number of boiler tube failure due to impingement (probably).

I would like to submit them to apply a kind of ceramic coating in the boiler walls. However, as I'm not a specialist of that stuff, I don't know if it's feasible for the following reasons:

- there's a surface of about 500 m2 to be coated
- which coating method is the most suitable for this application
- which coating material could be used as well
- is it economically feasible... basically what's the cost of coating 500m2: I guess that my client will not run a coating if it's more expensive than changing the tubes!

I will be grateful for your answer to my questions.

Florent

  Engineering education in China
Posted by: studyinchina - 03-26-2007, 01:24 PM - Forum: Products and Services - Replies (1)

Chinese engineering and technology have developed rapidly since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. This growth has been especially dramatic following the adoption of national reform and openness policies nearly 20 years ago. Our nation has trained a large number of skilled engineers and technicians across a range of disciplines. These professionals have played a major role in the development of the national economy, in the continuous improvement of quality of life for all Chinese, and in the advancement of science and technology around the world.

China is today the largest producer of engineering graduates in the world, with some 600,000 passing out of its colleges and universities on 2005. Compared to China, the United States produces 70,000 engineering graduates every year. All of Europe produces 100,000.
