: Hello everybody,
: I am doing research on CrN coatings. Unfortunately, the coating is very rough so I can not measure hardness by Vickers. Someone suggests to polish samples before carrying out measuring hardness, but I am not sure whether this method is correct or not.
: I would like to receive your advices.
: Thank you so much.

It is normal and necessary to prepare the surface to a good flat finish in order to measure the hardness impression via the microscope. Generally lighter testing loads (smaller impressions) require better finishing.
