: Dear Vasco,
: We have requirement of Plasma Coating on Aluminium Roller , Alloy 6066 and Temper T6 having hardness exceeding 1200 VPN , surface finish to be Ra 0.8 . Significance of this is to ensure smooth movement of HDPE tapes over coating at a speed of 440 mtr / min. Since Plasma Coating is black in colour , and the Vicker hardness can be measured by indenting a pyramid shaped indicator , the rhombus indentation is unclear and so its difficult to calculate VPN .
: Please guide us in detail since our development of new item depends a lot on this.
I think you may have place this message in the wrong place.
If you are talking about PVD type coatings then you will not be able to use the vickers hardness test in the normal way because the coatings are too thin.
I guess you are referring to a plasma spray ceramic coating probably chromium oxide or alumina/titania. You will ideally need a Vickers microhardness tester for this, using a 0.3 or 1 kgf force on a good metallographic quality polished surface.
Hope this helps
Regards Gordon
