Hello,
I am a Mechanical Engineering student at the University Of
Missouri. My Engineering Materials proffesor has assigned a writing
assignment where we are supposed to determine an alternative to
carburizing 1020 steel. He stated that we should look at nitriding.
I have been researching, and i can not find any definative
information that leads to me believe 1020 steel is able to undergo
nitriding. One source says it is while another says that it is not.
I have never researched for an engineering type paper before so I
am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just to
clarify I am not trying to take the easy way out I just need some
direction.
Thank You,
Jim Mahan
