: Thanks Gordon.
: All failures have been at the interface. We have been methodical about our surface preparation (pressure pot, 20-40 PSI, 4" stand-off, 45 angle, 54 grit). We have mimiced our competitors parameters with little success. Our competitor has pulled 14Ksi, Plasma with MasterBond EP15. Our microstructure looks better, but consistently fails pull testing. Micros indicate ~10% interface contamination.
: What is the typical hardness values, Rc, for 410 HVOF?
: Historically, has a plasma sprayed Stainless Steel pulled in excess of 10Ksi?
Sorry, not much experience with 410 HVOF coatings. I would expect results around 30 - 40 HRC equiv.
APS stainless steel coating tensile bond strengths would typically be around 3000 - 8000 psi (depending on all the variables). It would be rare to see anything above this I think.
