: Is it possable to obtain a direct correlation between hardness tests i.e. surface hardness test in HRc with a micro surface hardness test in Hv. for example a measured value on a surface of 56Rc would this equate to 613HV on a micro hardness test on the same sample at the same point.
Hi Neil
It may be possible for a particular very homogeneous material, if the correlation is formulated from that particular material. Many materials will have a hardness gradient near to the surface, so it is important that not only the hardness test method used but also the force be stated. Hardness conversions here could be very misleading as the different methods test to very different depths.
You must appreciate that using generic conversion tables is at best only a rough guide.
