Sealer for ceramic coatings
Hi Everyone,

Does anybody here have any information about the sealers used for Corona treater rolls.

The rolls need ceramic coatings but for the roll to be functional, it should have negligible porosity and very high surface finish. To facilitate this, the rolls are coated with a sealer.

I want to know what type of sealers are available for this particular application. Any input in this matter is highly appreciated.Smile

Regards

K09

RE: Sealer for ceramic coatings
Hi K09

Sealers based on wax, epoxy, silicone and phenolic have all been used. Firstly sealing is required to reduce moisture ingress into coating to stabilise dielectric properties. Sealer needs compatible level of dielectric properties to compliment or improve coating performance.

Why not try Ceramics (particle sizes -5+22 micron or so) with HVOF? The Deposit efficiency is not so good but the quality in excellent, (very dense, smooth and high electrical resistance. Personally have experience for bearings with Metco 105SFP and Diamond Jet Hybrid system.

Hi Martin

Sign0016 to the Surface Engineering Forum.

Thanks for your input.

I can see that coating doing well for top end Corona roll application.

Hi Martin: a few questions on this interesting application
  1. What fuel gas did you use with the Metco 105SFP?
  2. Does Metco have a set a parameters published for this?
  3. What lead you to the Ceramics via the HVOF, seems relatively uncommon except for via the top gun...
