PWA 53-5 Microhardness Cracking Problem

We are experiencing cracks around the indentations of the microhardness test, Vickers 300 DPH. The PWA 53-5 spec dictates to lower the load to no more than 100 g if cracking around the indentations is observed. We cannot test at a 100g load due to the machine limitations. Testing at the 50g load yields no cracks, but the coating exceeds the 850 hardness limit. Does anyone have any similar experience with this PWA 53-5 coating and can you offer any suggestions?
