Need help to suggest coating material
Hi All,

I am working on flame coat system using Sulzer 14E gun. Substrate material is aluminum most of the time but some are stainless steel.
Our specification ask for Ra 600-800uin and no visual defect. Currently, we are using aluminum wire, I need to look for better coating material for better adhesion because the substrate will be use in sputtering chamber to attract sputter material. Substrate will be grit blasted before coating. Any suggestion for better coating material? How does the coeeficient thermal expabsion work? Are those below options suitable?
i)Metco SF aluminum
ii)Metco 405

405 bond and sf aluminum are a good choice and are used on many oem gas turbine repairs. It is used as an abradable coating. Is that what you are looking for? There are lots of decent wires with different properties from metco still.

RE: Need help to suggest coating material
I'm using Metco smart arc system and using pure Al as coating material. The substrate consist mainly of Al. what is the suitable coating material, coefficient thermal expansion for Al is about 13x10-6/K. Do I need to look for similar CTE material? The coating must be good in adhesion towards various type of sputter material and subject to coating and chemically stripping bi-weekly basis.
I have shorlist a few like Al6Si, Al12Si,Cu8Al,Ni20Al, which is the safe bet in term of cost and functionality?

on aluminum substrate i would use metco 8400 or tafa 75b bondcoat
top coat of aluminum silicon tafa 01a AL 12Si the metco equivalent.
for wire arc. those configurations stay on gas turbine engines that go from -40 to 400+

some people use a moly bondcoat such as tafa 13t on aluminum. i am not sure if it is better. It is not good to over 400f though.

Dear Operator,
May I know how the coating is chemically stripped and is there any etching/damage take place on the substrate?

regards,
S.Guna
