Dacromet Vs Zn spray
Hi all,

can anyone comment on the replacement of Dacromet 320 coating by ordinary zinc coating (using wire flame spray) to 25-30 microns or a zn-al coating to same thickness

Regards

Shantanu

RE: Dacromet Vs Zn spray
Depends heavily on the application. Dacromet is an inorganic coating with flake fillers (Zn and Al). Zinc thermal spray is just zinc. I don't know much about Dacromet, but it appears to be a friction stabilizing coating as well, which the Zn will not do a great job of. As far as corrosion resistance is concerned I would expect the Zn to do a better job, because filled coatings usually can't compete.

That said, 30 micron is probably not what you are going to get in Zn thermal spray. It would be thicker than that in most cases in the ballbark of 150+ micron.
