and if there is a flamability problem.

: Yes, it is possible to spray titanium alloys using normal
atmospheric plasma spray methods and the material is very
exothermic during spraying like nickel aluminium composites. It
will depend on what coating qualities you are after. These alloys
readily oxidise and also react or absorb gases like nitrogen and
hydrogen. Using typical spraying parameters coatings tend to be
heavily oxidised, hard and somewhat brittle but produce very high
bond strengths. Plasma gases have a significant effect. Nitrogen
and hydrogen are best avoided, argon only or argon/helium are best
for cleaner coatings. The use of an argon gas shroud around the
plasma is recommended and is a common method used with these
materials. If you are after very clean coatings, argon filled
chamber or vacuum (low pressure) plasma spray will be
required.
