: I am on the lookout for a coating that could be applied to a 99.97% pure alumina ceramic to render the ceramic impervious to water. This water may be as hot as 300°C with excursions to 500°C possible at a pH of 8-9. The alumina on its own has a limited life span at these conditions that I am looking to extend. There is no strength requirement, wear resistance or other properties required - it just needs to keep the water away from the ceramic.
a simple method would be to laser fuse the alumina coated surface.see my second book on surface engineering
