: Hi,

: I am interested in coating stainless steel exhaust pipes with a porous, thermally resistant layer of aluminium oxide. Can anyone recommend a technique? I have tried wet spraying a slurry of Al2O3 in water, but the adhesion was not good.

Hi Dave

You could try combustion powder spraying first a bond coat of nickel/aluminium followed by alumina
(without the use of cross airjet acceleration. Inquire at a local thermal spray coating company (It's not something you would set up for yourself unless you are going into production.

If this seems to complex or expensive for your purpose I believe there are paint on products available, but they usually require heat curing.
