: i recently started using the diamalloy 5849 which is excellent against erosion and corrosion. i have now been told that the process in which these coated parts are working a flushed yearly with a diluted blend of hydro-chloric acid. is previous circumstances i have found that hydro-chloric acid eats away quite rapidly through chrome. my question is being that diamalloy 5849 is composed 86% tungsten carbide, 10% cobalt, adn 4% chromium, if the concentration of hydro-chloric acid is 5%, will it affect the coating during teh yearly flush?
: thanks for any help yu can give me,
: also if anyone has information on diamalloy 5849 and its effectiveness against acids can you please send it to me,

Hi Christopher
I would certainly not recommend this practice. Although, I know some seem to get away with using aggressive cleaning solutions on WC-10Co-4Cr and chromium carbide-nickel chromium coatings, but I have also seen a few drastic failures usually occuring weeks or months after washing. The problem is not so much with the corrosion of the coating surface, but what happen below it!
