PTA Powder Composition for Cast Iron
Hello everyone,

What is the current recommended powder composition for PTA cladding of Cast Iron?
  • Application: Bearing journal
  • Cast Iron: ASTM A48 Grade 45B
    • Thickness of cladding: 1 mm after machining
    • Hardness requirement: Hardness is secondary to weldability

Sure I would like to use laser cladding, but do not have this equipment available. Component was previously worked with HVOF WC but the coating system failed, because of some bearing issues, now I am going to a welded process.

I have full access and relationship to most major and minor powder suppliers...

RE: PTA Powder Composition for Cast Iron
Deloro Stellite used to have a range of PTA powders for cast iron and aluminium bronze, namely 99E, 105E and 109E. Suggest you contact your local DS distributor to see if they are still available.

Preferred alloy for would be SF grade, such as, Co-alloy SF6 or Ni alloy Ni-Cr-SI-B-C mixed with WC. These are aavilable in powder form for PTA applications.
