Hi Administrators.
Couldn't find out from the Help-files how to make a reply to anything, without duplicating the original re/question. If we have a longer discussion concerning the same thread, then every in-between reply is duplicated (taking needless space) and making it idle knowledge. Don't know, may be this is the structure of the Forum, and I should continue as previously?

PS. How do one change the forum setup to show the latest reply or comment etc. to be in the front row, when one opens the SEF?

RE: Post Reply?
Hi bjarne

Some good questions

I will try to explain the different ways in which you can reply to a post or thread.

1. [Image: postbit_quote.gif] at the bottom of each post.

This mode places a quote of the particular post you are replying to (remember you can delete this if you don't want it). Also this has an effect if you view the forum in the threaded view mode ([user CP] - [Edit Options] - Thread View Options - Thread View Mode gives choice of linear or threaded) The linear view mode is the default (probably the best) and you will see no difference whether you" reply" or "new reply" or "quick reply" in respect to post placement position. (difficult to describe, you really need to view in threaded mode to see what I'm on about).

2. [Image: newreply.gif] towards bottom of page after last post on page.Rolleyes also near top od page.

This mode gives a blank page to type on. I usually just copy and paste any relevent material I want to quote (highlight text and click[Image: quote.gif] "insert quoted text"). You can also use [Image: postbit_multiquote.gif] "quote this post on a new reply page" found at the bottom of each post. You can also click more than one if needed. (remember you can always edit and reposition the quotes).

3. "Quick Reply" near bottom of page. This is the same as "New Reply" but without all the editing features.

If you are unsure of anything, just experiment by posting to "Testing and Trashing" so that it does not spoil any of the other forums (you can see this in the thread "Tests") . Also it is best to always "Preview Post" before posting, this lets you to see how your post will look and allows you to test any links, images and quotes before you commit to posting. Remember you can always go back to edit your posts [Image: editpost.php?pid=6].

I must admit I don't like excessive or pointless quoting. But it is a good feature to highlight what you are responding to. If you are responding to the last post, there is little point to quoting it Rolleyes In fact I will try and tidy up a few threads by editing out some of the unnecessary quotes.

Hope that helps.

I will move this to a new thread title "Post Reply"

Not sure exactly what your after here. The following comments may help though.

If you want to order the posts within a thread to ascending instead of descending like the facility for ordering threads, I afraid that is not possible in the current set-up. I will look into this to see if it is a possible feature for the future (should anybody want this).

You could try the threaded view mode (top of thread page above first post) if this is more to your liking. Your viewing mode reverts back to linear when you move to another thread though. Changing your viewing mode in your [User CP] ? [Options] will make this permanent. Think I have just discovered a bug. Selecting the threaded mode in User CP makes changing back to linear mode via the post page not possible (as you can with linear or default mode in set in User CP). I will look into this problem and try and get a fix.

You can view New Posts and View Todays Posts by clicking near the top of page under ?Welcome back ...". Also under thread listings you can select ?last post?

SEF Portal lists threads by last thread first in descending order and on the lefthand side lists posts by last post first in descending order.

Hope that helps.

The bug descibed above has been fixed Big Grin. You can select your default viewing mode in UserCP. You can toggle between the viewing modes when reading posts, but it will switch back to default when you move to a different thread.
