RE: HVOF powder for Impeller
What is the condition of the impellers (new or used/worn)? What do you want the coating to do for you? Do you need to rebuild worn areas or do you want to protect them from corrosion/wear? What is going through the pump? Any rocks in the pumped fluid?

Hi Djewell,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I would like to rebuild worn areas of used impellers. They work under MDEA Solution environment.
Thanks,

RE: HVOF powder for Impeller
I do not know what "MDEA Solution environment" means. When choosing a powder for repair, look for something with similar properties to the part's base metal. The CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) should be similar as well as the hardness. It is not good practice to try to fill a worn area to build it back up to the thickness of the surrounding metal. It is necessary to machine the surface to a uniform level, and then apply your coating to restore the metal thickness. Then, you can look for a top layer to protect the part from future wear.

RE: HVOF powder for Impeller
My guess is that MDEA is probably intended to mean: Methyl Diethanolamine in this instance. I would guess that this pump operates in a chem/petrochem refinery type environment. MDEA is a common sweetening agent for these types of facilities.

That said, I don't know enough about the behavior of the chemical or the pump application to give this post more meaning. A "solution" doesn't really provide much meaning either. Presumably you are referring to an aqueous solution, but it could also be alcohol or some other hydrocarbon solvent, and concentration may play a role in suitability as well.

In addition there are concerns about the form of wear you have encountered in the pump. If this is cavitation wear, then the recommendation will differ from sliding abrasion or corrosion/erosion. Can you provide finer detail?
