Hello Dear Colleagues!
Hope you doing well.
Could anyone please provide any information about approximate spray parameters for MCrAlY and YSZ powders for TAFA Plazjet II 7700?
Typical gas mixtures: Ar+H2 and N2+H2
Typical application: TBC (porous and DVC)
Unfortunately, there are nuggets of information about this particular plasma gun in free sources and OEM is unavailable.
Thanks in advance

Plasma Sprayed Metco 443 NS microstructure issue |

Hi Guys,
Hope to get your input on this issue.
For the past 1 year, on and off we are seeing some weird big oxides in the Metco 443 coating, which according to our observation, it usually occurred when the batch of powder contained around 3wt% or more of powder at -325mesh size. We feedback to Metco regarding this, which they simply said this issue was mainly due to turbulence and dust. But well, we do not really see this issue happen when the powder contained around 2wt% of -325mesh particle or less....so I am not sure what is the real cause.
We are using Metco 9MB gun, consoles are 9MC or Multicoat (we have 3 systems in total), powder feeder is 9MP.
Below is the parameter we use, unit for airflow is SCFH.
Ar = 90 SCFH, H2 = 28 SCFH, Carrier, N2 = 12 SCFH, current = 550A, Nozzle = GH, SOD = 5.5 inch, surface speed = ~200ft/min, step size = 4 mm.

Hope you guys are able to help me on this.
Thanks,
CS

Metco F4MB Inquiry |

Hi,
I have a Plasma system as follows:
- 9MC unit
- 9MP feeder
- F4MB gun
I have been looking through manuals and Metco bulletins for primary (Ar) and secondary (H) pressures. However, none of them have provided such parameters.
But rather they provide flows for both.
I have found one example which states 5 Bar for primary and secondary gases. but surely this isn't the case for all powders used with the F4MB?
I plan to spray ceramic (TiO,CrO), abradable (XPT 268) and some alloys (NiAl,NiCr) with this set-up.
Therefor, I was wondering what pressures would be recommended for such applications?
Thanks,
Owen

Hi all,
Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative epoxies to Cytec FM1000? We currently use Masterbond EP15 and their thickening agent, which works great for HVOF adhesion test above 10K PSI, but I would like to have a backup incase supply becomes an issue.
Any info would be great, thanks!

Problem with Metco 601NS & F4 |

Hi everyone!!
I followed during a long time this forum and, now, i need to post due to a problem with a new part.
We are developing a new part with metco 601Ns & F4. We were working during years with other setups powder-gun but, now, we are experiencing problems.
When we spraying test coupons, there is no problem, the whole coating microstructure is ok, hardness too(70-72 HR15Y). But, when we did the part, we are getting some problems with the surface finish. I think that we are having problems with turbulence, setup of the airjets or something related.
I posted a picture of the part.

I tried to change the crossing distance of the airjets in the last passes of the last part, and it seems we have obtained a slight improvement, but i am scared to develop a working route with bond coat parallel airjets & top coat crossing airjets.
Could u help me?
Parameters are basically from Oerlikon Metco.

Amdry 956 Hardness |

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and am early in my career in thermal spray, I'm having trouble with a getting my coating to achieve a requirement so I thought id see what the people with all the experience have to say!
I am spraying Amdry 956 with a Metco F1 gun, The specification requires a Hardness of Rb80, im currently no where near, only just achieving a hardness of Rb 64. I have tried spraying test pieces with thickness' varying from 0.25mm all the way up to 2.00mm . I'm at a bit of a loss on what to do, I initially had issues with unmelts which took a while to solve, only for me to have overlooked the hardness requirement. Does anyone have any suggestions on what direction to take?
any help would be much appreciated,
Regards
Ben
