  Coating hardness conversion
Posted by: bhellman - 12-19-2006, 05:32 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (7)

Dear Colleagues, note my query:
TS-coating hardnesses are expressed in several ways. Our friends over-there, the AM-people are usually telling us the hardness as HRC. We EU-people favour HV 0,3 or at least some Vickers.
How to convert HRC to HV concerning sprayed coatings at least to get a rough figure. If one uses the tables and calculators found on the net, one gets a too low figure for HV, compared to actual hardness measurements.
It seems if one adds 5 to 10 points to the HRC-scale, the outcome in HV touches actual HV-figures.
Does anyone have a somewhat "reliable" compensation solution to this.
All this only because I'm nowadays, after 40 yrs in the TS-business, entertaining myself by technical translations crosswise between FIN-ENG-SWE.

  HVOF T800 removal
Posted by: finnie - 12-13-2006, 03:29 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (2)

I'm looking for a chemical strip method to remove roughly .005-.007 inches of HVOF T800. The base material is Rene 41 and is quite thin so grit blast strip is not my method of choice, nor do I think it's even and option.

  MINIATURE ARC SPRAY EQUIPMENT
Posted by: Vijay Deshpande - 12-12-2006, 01:55 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (9)

Dear All,
We all know that Arc spray process offers a good bond and is very effective in reclamation of worn out components. How ever when it comes to carrying out a small repair at distant site moving equipment with all its peripherals is a big job. Is there any manufacturer of Low weight equipment along with a very light weight gun which can be transported very easily

  Abradable coatings
Posted by: kcc - 12-07-2006, 12:57 AM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (14)

Hello,
Is there any historical information on shear and tensile values for abradable coatings? More specific, 308 nickel graphite. Is there a correlation between the tensile and shear strength of this coating?

Thank you,
Kim

  WC/Co/Cr coating
Posted by: Arturas - 12-05-2006, 09:09 AM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (25)

Hello,
I have serious problem, how to make that WC/Co/4%Cr coating sprayed by HVOF (MicroJet system) on plunger (max pressure 200bar, work in pair with bronze hub) could work. After one month of working coating in some places go off. And in one place coating is??as a bubble with several small gaps.??I am attaching pictures with defects . Can anybody to explain it.
Substrate is steel X45Cr13 (DIN 17230-80). Thermal treatment : normalization
Coating thickness was 0.3mm on side after spraying and 0.1-0.15mm after grinding. After spraying??surface was painted with thick sealer layer (that moment temperature of coating was 20C).

How to attach pictures
Best regards
Arturas
