  Reg: POT Stabilizer Rolls
Posted by: Dileep - 04-16-2021, 07:33 AM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - No Replies

Dear Friends,

We have a received an order for POT Stabilizer Rolls from one of our customer. The drawing calls for a surface roughness of 1.6-1.8 Ra.

As this roll will be used in a Zin Pot we are supposed to apply a sealant for proper sealing of the porosity. As of now am using DICHTOL HTR0977 Sealant.

The Surface Roughness after coating ( HVOF Process ) is in the range of 4-6 Ra. But once we apply the sealant and cure it the Roughness is coming down to 0.4-0.5 Ra.

Can anyone help me out how to maintain the roughness in the range of 1.6-1.8 Ra.

Also please do let me know whether the sealant what we are using currently is the proper sealant for this application.

Do help me out in this scenario.

Thanks in advance.

Hardness increase in Chrome Ceramic Plasma Coating
Posted by: DMan - 03-17-2021, 05:58 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (6)

Hello All

We coat Cr203 ceramic by plasma coating with oerlikon sinplex pro .
Since past few weeks, the coating hardness has suddenly increased .
Although I have not made any changes to process parameters in coating, I am still wondering what may have suddenly caused this.
Can anyone guide me on particular factors which can cause sudden increase in hardness of ceramic.
Note : Power on gun, Feed Rate , gun distance are all same as before. No change in thickness/pass, powder flow rate same as before.
Warm regards
DMan

Hi,

We are currently trying to evaluate CTE for different ceramic top coats with various spraying parameter.

How is it normal to measure CTE for coatings?

Star HVOF WCCo on Chilled Cast Iron(55HRC)
Posted by: tobjung - 03-03-2021, 04:26 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (1)

Dear forum,

Recently we coated a calender roll which is made of chilled cast iron (Hardness of roll is 55HRC) with WC17Co using HVOF.
The coating looked good but, when it is put into operation, it has random spot peel off (looks like localized bonding issue)Picture

Pretreatment: The roll was blasted by silicon carbide because it was very hard (Alumina oxide cannot blast it).
We blasted it to 9 Ra but we are not really confident about the blasted texture profile on the substrate surface.
After that, we sprayed 75B as a bond coat layer before spraying HVOF.

Now, the blasted texture profile of silicon carbide is our main suspect

Anybody has some suggestions ?

Shy HVOF Coating Calender Roll issues. Suggestion needed
Posted by: tobjung - 02-10-2021, 12:54 PM - Forum: Surface Engineering Threads - Replies (4)

Greeting from Venture Engineering Thailand.

I would like to ask for some helps on Calender roll-WC17Co HVOF Coating. I have to admit that this was my first time spraying this kind of roll.

The issue is after the roll was operated for 3 days, as you can see from the picture, there are some marks on the surface distributed all over the roll (like the coating bounce off).
Moreover, there are cracks appear on the coating surface. (We did PT and it was fine before delivery).
Now we have to re-coat it but we still have no idea what are these problems are coming from (especially, marks on the surface).

Pictures and Videos

Here are the coating details

  1. HVOF coating (JP-5000)
  2. WC17Co powder (particle size 15-45um and 15-53um)
  3. We did HVOF coating for 400um in thickness
  4. We sprayed 15-45um powder for 200 microns and the rest were 15-53um powders (we ran out of 15-45um powders so we had to use substituted powder)
  5. The operator changed feed rate back and forth throughout the operation
  6. Using slide way instead of handheld (but the gun was vibrated quite hard as you can see from the video)
  7. Temperature control on roll surface was 100 C
  8. Time interval of each ignition was 1-2 hours (as the cooling water was really hot, we had to wait)
  9. Grind to 200 microns with roughness of 0.1 Ra

Here are the working environment (see picture)
  1. This is the Queen Calender roll
  2. In the middle of King and Middle roll
  3. It is working with doctor blade
  4. The roll is in contact with chemical compound
Any suggestion would be helpful
