Bell  fire in extraction dust collection
Has anyone ever experienced this?:

We have a issue with dust from one of out thermal spray processes (AWS) which caught fire - in the barrel which collects the dust from the extraction unit. The booth in question sprays zinc, Babbit (Sn, Sb, Cu, Pb) and SM8400 (95%Ni, 5%Al).

This happens from time to time because many metal powders are pyrophoric. In your case pyrophoric powders are zinc and NiAl.

Hi Lisa Walmsley
I can suppose that you are doing Babbitt bearings with arc spray system, and I can advise you that Babbitt powders as result of arc spray are very fine powders, fired easily and if in contact with water generated hydrogen that is explosive, so take care and clean continuously exhaust tubes and filters and if you use Babbitt with Pb Lead, it is very dangerous for the health, Pb must be absolutely avoided from metal spray, there is high risk of poisoning caused by the presence of lead in the body; it affects the brain, nervous system, blood, and digestive system and can be either chronic or acute, called also Saturnism, lead accumulated in many years, furthermore, if you use arc spray, use Cu10Al wire as bond instead of Ni5Al, it has better bond than Ni5Al
Best regards
Luigi
