coating on zinc bath pot walls
Hi All,

Customer needs a suitable coating for protection of walls of zinc pot used in galvanizing. Basic purpose is protection against erosion as well as controlled reaction of the coating with the molten zinc
Material of construction of zinc pot is Low Carbon Low silicon
Since its a zinc pot, temperatures probably in the tune of 420- 460 deg C

Considering a WIRE ARC spray of Ni 20 Cr / Inconel 625 (considering ARC spray as pot is quite large, making HVOF coatings expensive and time consuming)

Suggestions and recommendations pls

Regards

Shantanu

Hello Shantanu!
What do you thing about hardfacing deposition? PTA or direct diod laser cladding? It can bin very efficient and provide high deposition rates.
As for erosion protection - can you provide more information: possible impact angles, impact velocity (low/high)?

Arkadi

Hi Shantany,

Ni20Cr and In625 coating is not the good choice due to Molten Zn high corrosion, you must select a special material to make coating!
