Thermal Spraying of Silica

I really need some advices.

I would like to coat some substrates with silica to see its thermal insulation capabilities. Will plasma spray work?

If not, which technique would you suggest?

Quartz glass (silica) has under normal conditions, the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of about 0.5x10-6K-1. This is much less than that of all metals, however a coating of pure silica glass on the metal is not possible in any way. Quite another matter - glasses on the basis of SiO2 glass (silicate glasses). There glasses with a coefficient of linear expansion of 0.5 to 20x10-6K-1, so it is always possible to find a suitable glass for a particular substrate. Sprayed powder glasses can be as plasma spraying, and simple flame spraying. To obtain a dense glass coating on metal substrates, they need to melt. The thermal conductivity of most silicate glasses under normal conditions is less than 1 W/mK.
