Tank that cant be blasted, ideas?
Hi everyone. I am hoping someone on here can offer some advice.
I am working on a defence refit project and we have two small steam condensate tank that will contain fresh water up to 100c. We have had a problem with the original coating giving up as it is past its life.
The problem is that we do not have the option to blast the surface to get the profile that most paint suppliers require (SA2.5) to guarantee the bond due to the risk of blast media entering the turbines which are directly linked to the tank. The best we can get is a st3 standard back to bare steel with an MPX bristle blaster.
I was thinking some kind of bonding system or lining may be feasable?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

54 views and no possible solutions. This problems is proving a lot harder to solve then I thought!

have you considered
Heavy Duty Roto Peen Flap :3M US
https://www.3m.com › United States › AZ Product Catalog
3M™ Heavy Duty Roto Peen Flap. Used for cleaning and de-scaling steel and concrete. A cleaner, cost-effective alternative to blasting.
Or vacuum blasting, with the Clemco Euductomatic?

RE: Tank that cant be blasted, ideas?
Thanks for that Stephen. I will have a look in to those methods.
Regards,
Stuart
Does anybody know of a water soluble blast media that can achieve a SA2.5 surface profile? I know of soda blasting but this will not achieve such a profile.
Thanks

Thanks Kev,
Yes I agree using the MBX is an effective method but the problem is finding a coating system (even with a bond coat) that can guarantee adhesion in immersed temperatures up to 100c with this type of surface preparation.

Thanks Kev,
Is this a specific brand of bond coat you are quoting? I would be keen to find more information on this.
The main issue is coating adhestion gaurantee as this is an important peice of defence equipment.
Regards.
