TBC coating color
Hi Friends,

I have some problem in TBC coating. As you know during coating of TBC by APS process the coating contains some lines that are related to movement of the gun. So, I want to remove this effect and obtain a continuous form of coating color through the part. This part is big and huge.

How can I remove and disappear these lines after coating and provide a unique color on surface?

The part can not be heated again and the visual of it should be important,
I am waiting for favorable response,

Regards,

Hi Ramin

Sign0016 to the Surface Engineering Forum.

Experiment with the orientation of the powder port on the nozzle relative to the direction of substrate rotation/traverse.

A change in feeds and speeds may also help if not already set optimally.

A final pass without powder feed may even things up a bit.

Thank you Gordon for your aid, but I would like to mention that we coated parts and it has finished and it's not possible to spray again. With this condition we want to remove stripe vision in final process.

Thanks,

RE: TBC coating color
You can remove them by sand blasting, using vegetable sand as media

Hi,

Thank you for your aid. Could you more explain about this kind of blasting? Where can I find more information about that?

Hi Luis,

Thank you so much for your respond. I want to use for ground gas turbine part. It has been coated by APS method and the part has finalized but the trace of gun movement during coating is obvious. I will study this website and contact them about more information. Your comments are valuable for me.

Thanks,
Ramin

Ok, I think the best solutin will be vegetable granulate 180-400 µm applied with a suction blast system, because you do not have any mechanical action on the coating.

RE: TBC coating color
Why we still talking about this? The different color will not affect the function of TBC, once you put part in engine, no one care about the color. I think we should educate our customer, we sell the function of coating not the beauty of the coating.
