Stripping solutions for WC-Co

Hi, all,

I have WC-Co coating by HVOF on Inconel 718 substrate parts needs to be stripped.
Could anybody give some advices on strippers which will not harm the substrate? Thanks.

First, I would check with your customer/OEM of part if there is a an approved or recommended procedure.

I think there are a few topics previously posted, so may be worth searching forum and archived message board.

Electrolytic method:
20% sodium carbonate
5% tartaric acid
75% water
(not sure whether %weight or %volume)
temperature 70-80 degree C
Stainless steel cathode, coated part anode
current density 4-8 amps/sq in @ 6 volts DC

Chemical/mechanical method:
Various commercial nickel strip solutions may be used to degrade the coating in conjunction with mechanical methods such as gentle grit blasting.

Mechanical methods such as grit blasting or very high pressure water jet blasting may be necessary if chemical or electrolytic methods fail.

What ever method you choose it would be advisable to conduct tests first, to ensure effective coating removal with minimal damage to substrate.

I tried to use high pressure water jet stirpping ,but it's impossible to remove the coating.

So chemicial or mechanicial(grinding) are suggested.
