Stripping HVOF Nickel Bound

Hey all,

I am currently knee deep (turn of phrase) in learning to strip HVOF sprayed WcCoCr from various parts and substrates using an Electrolytic Rochelle Method. It's going quite well.

Just today I was asked if it would be possible to strip another Carbide spray however Nickel bound instead.

I'm positive the above mentioned method will not work, as it attacks the Cobalt contained in the afore mentioned powder.

So any suggestions as far as a chemical bath I could use?

Chemical bath are dangerous for environment, so try while is possible to do coating striping by sandblasting, high pressure water, grinding...

You can buy nickel stripping salts to work like the Rochelle salts you are currently using. Search for plating supply companies. They will have what you need.

Thanks for the info. We have looked into the environmental issue with our current process and see no reason to discontinue its use.

While we looked into using high pressure water, the cost for a shop just starting out, is a little excessive.

I will definitely look into the Nickel salts you mentioned to see they're availability and cost.
