Plasma spray using Kerblack
Hi! I’m Hector from Mexico.
I have some questions, so I really need your help!
Have you ever make a coating with “Kerblack” using plasma spray? We have the Metco 7MC plasma console with the 4MP single feeder and we traditionally use the CrO2 , but in the last days some customers have been asked for a Kerblack coating.
The parameters using for Kerblack are the same of CrO2 using plasma technique?
Parameters using (CrO2):
Argon Flow 100
Hydrogen Flow 20
Current 600 Amp
Voltage 75 V
Flow rate 30 gr/min
Carrier Flow 35
Cooling air 60 psi
What modification or consideration in the parameters I need to do to perform the best kerblack coatings?
Hope your comments! I’m sure that will help me!
Regards.

Dear Hector,

In my opinion, you need F4 Plasma Gun and 80 kW plasma system...

RE: Plasma spray using Kerblack
Hola Hector
As I know very well Mario Nava, and I did many times technical service for them, and I could say you that Kerblack in not a product, but a process name for a special Chrome oxide coating, it take a lot of time to obtain the correct set of parameters for the correct hardness, porosity and metallurgic composition of the coating, of course, in order to obtain the best result in a plasma process, you must change something in your system, like the 4MP powder feeder, that is the worse system, like 9MP, 5MP, with this powder feeder, you must have a powder feeder without fluidized bed, so you can have a perfect powder flow setting, the 7MP gun could work well, but you need to check geometry of the components, like nozzle, powder port, ecc
Best regards
Luigi
