Metco flame spray model question

I'm looking at buying a used metco flame spray model 10E or later.

I see that the 11E is a 'high speed' model. How is it different from a 10E or 12E and do I need a significantly larger compressor to operate it?

My compressor is 5hp 15cfm at 200psi, which I'm told is a bit small but will work for non-production jobs I do in my garage where I'm in no big hurry. Will this work for the 11E as well?

RE: Metco flame spray model question
Hi cool-engineer

Welcome to the Surface Enineering Forum.

The Metco 11E is designed for high speed spraying of low melting point soft metal wires like zinc and aluminium. It is not suitable for spraying hard metal wires with high melting points like steels. Basically the main difference is the wire drive gearing.

10E 12E and 14E come with standard gearing and cope with most wires, with the option of modifying the gearing to give high speed spraying similar to the 11E. Compressed air requirements I think are roughly the same for all of the these guns (30 cfm at 65 psi, 75 psi min at regulator to allow for pressure drop)

Hello ;

14E is designed both to spray soft and hard wires by only chaning the countershaft and the gearshaft.

Best regards,

cool-engineer,

Are you looking to purchase any wires to use with your new metco gun?

Thanks Danns, I bought some wire several months ago and I expect it will last me for a while. What Wire do you have?

Thanks
Cool-Engineer.

Any of the metco guns, 10e and 12 e included can be modified into high speed guns. I've got a modified 10e that runs high speed gearing and 3/16 wire for sale if you're interested, however, the size of the compressor you're anticipating using may be a problem. What are you going to be metallizing?
