Metco 73F-NS-1
Hi All;

Is there anyone willing to share an aerospace quality parameter for Metco 73F-NS-1 sprayed with the 9MB plasma gun? I'm looking for a repeatable, robust parameter with less than 5% porosity and with tensile strength in excess of 7300 psi when sprayed from .009 - .013" total thickness.

I've been spraying this material for years and am going to perform a DoE very soon with the intent to improve process repeat-ability. However, I'd first like to hear from the forum members their experiences with plasma spraying this material.

Thanks!

Have you asked your sales rep?

Are you kidding? I was the sales rep! Looking for opinions outside of the Company. Obviously nobody has anything. Not a surprise.

Have you tried the Metco 71VF-NS parameters to meet PWA 257-1. These parameters may get you close. Just watch your water temperature and gun parts.

No, not kidding. Who do you buy your powder from? They most likely don't know the parameters but should have the connections to find out. They have a vested interest in selling you powder, which they will continue to do if you can meet your customers' specs.

Yes. Good suggestion too. The issue is one of consistency, and I've tried a thousand parameters. When I was working at Metco, most customers I worked with had hit and miss results with this material. And as far as I know we never conducted a full investigation into the coating parameters. Most likely going to have to run this with the Accuraspray 100% of the time as I suspect differences in powder lots are the culprit.
