Metal spray equipment. Please could someone advise?
Hi there,
I am a machinist, who for many years managed a maintenance machine shop. We would subcontract parts for reclamation by metal spraying then re machining.
At the moment I am looking at setting up my own business and would like to know how much a small arc spray (or flame? I don't know) system for reclaiming parts would cost. I realise that this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but really don't know if they are 100's, 1000's or 10,000's?
I would be looking to use something on an old lathe, say to reclaim shafts up to 3m long. Are there used units available? And would a separate booth with extraction be required or just an air fed helmet?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Ken

Hi Ken,

I see from your profile that you are in the UK. If you get in touch with us at Metallisation (the only manufacturer of metal spray equipment in the UK), we will be pleased to visit with you and talk you through the possibilities.

As a guide for you, 100's is not practical unless all done with second hand units. Flame would be in the 1000's, arc in the 10,000+ range.

We can also discuss extraction / booth requirements with you.

Hi Ken

Certainly, initially at least I would contact the equipment manufacturers/sellers for advice/demonstrations/quotations to get a feel for what you might be getting into Smile. The support some of these companies give can be worth the extra cost over buying second-hand. For a beginner being led into the shallow end is probably better than being pushed in the deep end Happy0193

Hope you don't mind me re-naming your thread to "Metal spray equipment. Please could someone advise?", it just makes it easier for people to find or search for this thread in future.

Good luck.

That makes much more sense Gordon. I am beginning to see that surface engineering encompasses somewhat more than shaft reclamationBig Grin

Thanks for all replies.
