Laser Cladding Stellite#6
Hallo Everybody,
I am a new member to the forum.

We have laser cladded Stellite 6 on steel recently and the hardness was observed to be approx. 52 HRC. Unlike the PTA process where only a 42HRC is achieved, is this high hardness any problem? The coating was develped without any cracks and pores.

Regards,
Kedar

I don't think the extra hardness will necessarily be a problem, unless too much toughness is lost. It may provide better wear resistance. It is difficult to predict without doing tests and evaluating some of the other properties as well.

Hardness of??any weld clad Stellite6 deposit depends on the??composition of the material and the dilution of weld.In laser welding dilution being very low it is possible to get high hardness. However witin the specified limits Stellite6 composition can be controlled to produce an undiluted hardness of 46 to 52 HRC.As Gordon has rightly pointed out application oriented properties need to be evaluated to get required performance level

Hi Kedar

As Ram has indicated the increase in hardness is probably mainly due to dilution of the deposit with the substrate. You will also need to consider that the laser cladding process tends to be a more localised in effect. Solidification and cooling rates may be faster, which may also effect the deposit microstructure and properties.

hi kedar
on pta we can have variation on hardness if we change (amperage),more we go up ,less hardness we get
I presum laser cladding is the same you have to ajust your parameters to get hardness desired

I m surprised to see 2500 readers and only 4 persons share the subject,it s anormal to profit from others,at lest ask if you don t know ,it s horrible to see means people
