Jet Kote nozzle life
Hello everyone,
How long does your Jet Kote nozzle last? I just join a company that use Jet Kote gun, we only have 2-3 hrs nozzle life for WC coating. Before I use metco 2600, I had much longer life.
Thanks,

RE: Jet Kote nozzle life
Hi Plyer,
to the Surface Engineering Forum.
It does sound excessive, though I have little experience with JetKote system to really know. It will be important to let us know the hardware/parameters/powder etc. to get an idea of whether your nozzle life is normal or not. I'm sure GlenB could be very helpful

RE: Jet Kote nozzle life
Hi GlenB,
We use JK3000, spray Lineage LA3386 powder(WC/Co/Cr), The nozzle we use is 256 standard .
Oxygen 620 SCFH@170Psi
Hydrogen 1750@170Psi
Ans use Metco 9MP DJ powder feeder, feed rate is 40g/min, carrier gas is 75@150Psi.
Cooling water : supply temperature 70F, return temperature around 110F.
Running time about 2 hours/ day.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

That is very excessive. Let me know more about the system you run, nozzle (size, part number and supplier) and also the powder brand, type and size. Typically what is the running time of the JetKote system per day or week?

Hi plyer
Parameters for Stellite JK120H (WC/Co/Cr) use a 1/4" X 6" nozzle. O2 looks good but H2 is in the 1250-1400SCFH range. Carrier of 57SCFH Argon. Don't recognise the pn for the nozzle, maybe try OEM nozzle.
Parameters may not be good for Lineage powder, and flows may be off if you are running a DJ console due to calibration differences. But looks awful reducing in fuel/O2 ratio.
You should get 20+ hrs nozzle life

RE: Jet Kote nozzle life
Thanks Kevin,
Yes, we do use the 1/4"x6" nozzle. Do you mean we use too much hydrogen? Our control system is Supercore HV3.
The flame should be hotter if we use more fule and keep the oxygen unchanged?

RE: Jet Kote nozzle life
The flame will be hotter if you lower your fuel and keep the Oxygen the same. The excess gas is shrouding the powder in H2 but cooling the flame and lowering velocity also.

RE: Jet Kote nozzle life
Thanks.
Nothing can be seen inside the nozzle. Just become oversized about 0.010" at front side.

Definitely the parameters are out and as Kevin pointed out some parameters may need tweaking for LA and other powders. Not sure of your reason for using LA powders but if it is cost saving then that is surely lost with premature nozzle replacement. Are you using OEM hardware or good quality generic parts? I know that there are now non-OEM parts available that are actually better! It would be useful to know what you are seeing inside the nozzle. But as Kevin M has already pointed out there are already significant factors that are nozzle causing wear.
Cheers
GlenB
