Hvof on conductor rolls for electric tin lines
Hello

We are have been hard Chrome plating these rolls for many many years
Now, we are required to analyze if we could do it instead by HVOF

Would like to get to know which powder is more appropriate (maybe wc/co/cr?) and what's the electrical resistivity (or Conductivity) of the coating

Also, we should probably use a sealer, right? Is DICHTOL appropriate?
Thanks in advance

Hi, Danmarco

WCCoCr would be a good choice here and its electrical conductivity is more or less the same as Cr (13% Cr makes the game).

Regarding a need for a sealer, it depends on the system and coating thickness choice.

You will need a sealer using a poor quality system or less than 100 microns HVOF.

High-end HVOF or HVAF system will make impermeable coating which does not need a sealer.

Thanks for your answer

Are there any values that compare resistivity of cr vs wccocr?
How can I prove that they are similar to my customer?

Thanks a million

I wonder if there is any type of fluid used on the process?

We've tried and burnt our hands applying WCCoCr on tinning line rolls (conductor rolls and other path rolls) using HVOF....

The tinning process uses chemicals / acids that WC cannot tolerate. It shall permeate the coating and tear it. Application of a sealer was not effective to stop it - at-least when we initially tried coating the rolls with WCCoCr + Sealer...

We have a proprietary (custom made and patented) coating process for these lines, obtained from our partners ASB Industries, which works perfectly...you can contact me directly at director@emcpl.in for further discussion on the same
