Hot Salt Bath Solution
I'm new to the stripping of T800 coating on tooling using a hot salt bath solution. When I say new, I mean I've never used this type of method for the stripping of T800. Any advice would really help me out. We have the equipment, though no one here has ever used it.

As I'm learning more this is what I have so far...the mix is sodium carbonate and potassium sodium tartrate.

I can ask a co-worker who has much more experience stripping coatings than I do.

What is the tooling made of? That matters a lot!

The tooling is stainless steel. But now I have a larger problem. this tank has sat for a couple of years and was never cleaned out before dis-service. Now there about 6-8 inches of chemical sediment that has hardened practically like a rock. I've added water to the tank in hopes of dissolving the residual chemicals to no luck. Now I need to find a way of removing this before I can do anything else.

If that was/is a hot salt bath you need to heat it, no? I would not expect water to do much...

Or is this very different from the hot salt baths I'm thinking of that are typically used for heat treat?

It's the following...
Distilled water with Sodium Carbonate and Potassium Sodium Tartrate. I believe I have that all figured out. Now I need to figure out how to determine the volts and amps to the surface area of the parts I'm stripping. Does anyone know what the formula is for determining this?

4-6V DC & a current density of 4-8A/in^2 is the suggested control limits per AMS 2448. Some specifications just give a requirement of 4-6V with no specific current density.

Also heating the tank to 140-150 would probably help dissolve the hardened constituents at the bottom. 140-150 is the recommended operating temp during stripping to keep the salts in solution
