RE: Help,parameters to spray Zn/al
Hi mustangero75
to the Surface Engineering Forum.
With 1/8" jetted hardware and EC air cap
2GF Oxygen 45
2GF Acetylene 40 (maybe 42 with high spray rate)
2AF Air 51 (maybe 53 with high spray rate) 3AF manual should have conversion tables from 2AF settings
Lighting pressures:
Oxygen 30 psi
Acetylene 15 psi
Air 70 psi
While spraying adjust flow meter needle valves to give above flows

RE: Help,parameters to spray Zn/al
Hi mustangero75
Sorry, I don't have 2AF or 3AF manuals to hand. Hopefully, someone else on the forum has one of the AF manuals and can help.

RE: Help,parameters to spray Zn/al
Hi mustangero75
The gun should not be lit without first feeding wire into the nozzle. Without wire the flame will blow back down the wire guide channels.

Hi mustangero75
Sounds like you need to service the gun gas head. Replace valve core and plunger o-rings. Check also siphon plug and nozzle o-rings.

AH air cap good for start-stop operation with aluminium and zinc alloys using acetylene or propane and 3/16" wire. Use EA if spraying is on a more continuous basis.
Siphon plug No3? 87-2-3 acetylene 1/8" wire
Nozzle No7? 87-7-7 acetylene 3/16" wire annular?

RE: Help,parameters to spray Zn/al
Hi mustangero75
Apologies for my last post, the part numbers were totally wrong. I have now corrected that post best I can. Can anyone with 11E manual confirm whether these are right please.
I have been searching for my old 11E manual but it appears I have lost it I was mistaken in thinking there was some commonality between 11E, 12E and 14E parts. Well it has been a long time since messing with the 11E.
Changing between 3/16" and 1/8" will require nozzle, siphon plug, air cap changes.
Quote:can be use this gun with zinc/al??
Yes, this should not be a problem with the right hardware.
Quote:will fit the 12e nozzle on the 11e?
Not sure.
I would strongly advise getting the gun instruction manuals if you can.

thxs again
87-7-14*(2)(3)(acet 1/8 jetted non loading) is recommended for spraying soft wires such as tin and babbitt. When starting and stopping wire feed while gun flame is on can produce conditions where the wire can to stick in the nozzle. Non-loading nozzles/air caps reduce this by having air cooling channels. The downside is that they are less efficient. So consider using non-loading hardware only if you are troubled by wire sticking in nozzle.
87-7-3 *(1)(acet 1/8 annular), and 87-7-13*(2)(acet 1/8 jetted) both should be suitable. I've only ever used jetted hardware on Metco wire guns, so I can't really comment on pros and cons.

RE: Help,parameters to spray Zn/al
Hi mustangero75
For 1/8" aluminium wire try:
With 1/8" jetted hardware and EC air cap
2GF Oxygen 43
2GF Acetylene 40
2AF Air 52
Lighting pressures:
Oxygen 30 psi
Acetylene 15 psi
Air 70 psi
