HR15Y Calibration Blocks
Hello All,

We spray a lot of abradable coatings on a regular basis but are having trouble finding a supplier of HR15Y test blocks to calibrate our hardness testing equipment.
We produce coatings with hardness ranges from as low as 25 HR15Y up to 85 HR15Y. Ideally we'd like to have some blocks in the lower range of around 40 - 60 HR15Y.
We have even tried coating our own blocks and having them finish machined and calibrated, but these are prone to giving somewhat inconsistent results.
Can anyone recommend a UK supplier of HR15Y calibration blocks in the lower range of around 40 - 60?

Hi Sprayboy

I had same problem years ago, and then only manage to get test blocks in the low 90's HR15Y.

RE: HR15Y Calibration Blocks
Thanks for the info Gordon.
The problem we have is probably similar to what you experienced.
We're supposed to use calibration blocks within +/-15 points of the coating we're applying. So when you're putting down a material like Metco 314 and have a range of 45 - 55, the hardest the calibration block should be is 70.
I'll call Instron and see if they can help.
Thanks again.
