Electroplating Vs thermal spray coatings

Hi All,

A customer needs to replace some guide pads which is currently electroplated with brass with Metallizing as the electroplated surface wears off prematurely

I need to know if the typical wear rate of a metallized / thermal sprayed surface is lower than that of electroplating considering there is negligible impact load so that we may replace the brass electroplating with Brass spray

Dear Shantanu,

You can replace the same with metallizing.

The coating characteristics are superior than platting but price is also 3 to 4 times higher and if thickness requirement is high (more than 0.3mm) then thermal spray will be good option.

The thermal spary process is green technology compare to platting.

The wear rate will be almost same with minor difference.
