Coatings for forging dies
Hello,

I would like to know if there are any coating that can be used in hot forging dies. Can i use MCrAly coatings in order to prevent thermal fatigue? Is there any surface treatment that support/resist to stresses(thermal + mechanical) invoveld in hot forging process?

Apologies for bad english

Thanks a lot

RE: Coatings for forging dies
Hi Marcio Matos dos Santos

Welcome to the Surface Engineering Forum.

My experience is a little lacking in this area, so I hope we have other members who will give their advice.

Thermochemical treatments like boriding, chromising and vanadium/niobium carbide diffusion processes come to mind as being potential candidates. MCrAlY coatings, though providing excellent high temperature oxidation resistance, I think will lack the strength, low friction and anti-adhesive welding characteristics required for this process.
