Coated abrasives grading systems: FEPA, mesh, micron
Hi all,

I am looking for a conversion table or formula's to compare different coated abrasive belts.

I understand the Fepa grading system is commonly used in Europe (P-number). Also used (especially by older employees) is the term "mesh". The manufacturers of new fine abrasives tend to use their own grading systems, based on grain size. I am not sure if the ISO standards use the micrometer grading system. On different websites I can find some conversion tables, but it does seem these are not exactly the same.

Any complete table would be very much appreciated.

Regards, Rogier

Been studying into Media blasting and abrasive.
Came across this four terms. Grit, Mesh, Grade and micrometer. Can anyone give me a proper defination of each term wrt Media blasting and abrasive. Plus where can i get a recognized conversion table of the above mentioned. Thanks.

Hi Rogier

It is all a bit confusing, what with all the different standards and different manufacturer gradings. Best to relate to particle diameter in micrometres (microns).

A few links (which may or may not helpShy)

Sorry for this late reply, but thanks for these links. Some time to go before they get a worldwide standard. Wink

Hi Rogier

To some extent the standards exist, we just need everybody to read from the same sheet. Happy0193
