Brown aluminum oxide VS Chilled iron grit

Hi everybody,

I need to know if there can be any corrosion problem with chilled iron grit when used before thermal spray of of NiCr, NiCrAl or WC-Co.

We are using brown aluminum oxide but I was asked to look for ways to save on costs of abrasive. 3 years ago I've optimized the sieving system but now I need to go a step further. I read somewhere chilled iron grit wont breakup as fast as aluminum oxide so it can be reused more often before becoming too fine. I think it could be a good alternative to aluminum oxide but my bosses are concerned about corrosion caused by embedded particles in base metal and eventual spallation of the coating.

Is corrosion and spallation caused by embedded particle is something to be afraid of?

An HVAF gun can quickly and inexpensively grit blast parts before they are coated. The process is very fast and effective. The media is not expensive, but you will save a ton of time when preparing your parts for coating.

I know very well the capability of HVAF. In fact, we own one of your system. Once the system will be installed, grit blasting with the gun will be interesting. But we also have 4 more spray booth for plasma and flamespray so we will still need to grit blast the classic way.
