Applications of Chrome Plating
Hi frens,

I understand that hard chrome plating is used to repair worn-out steel rolls, in the cold-rolled steel mills.
Is chrome plating also done to texture the roll surface?

Any comments/opinionQuestion

Hello,
I think nowadays the whole system is working against application of hard chrome plating Smile At least in Europe

Thanks for the reply Arkzik.

Even i came across articles which talk of banning Chrome plating in the EU. Has this actually been enforced by the coating companies (because i checked quiet a number of European companies, which still proudly mention chrome coating on their websites) Exclamation

What alternative materials are being used in place of Chrome in that case?..any takes Question

RE: Applications of Chrome Plating
There are lots of chrome alternative coatings. Tungsten carbide is probably the most common, but there are many other candidates, depending on the properties you want to achieve. Chrome plating will not add texture to the surface of a part. It follows the contours of the part. Thermally sprayed coatings will have some surface roughness which can be enhanced or removed by secondary operations.

Thanks for this information djewell. Even i believed hard chrome plating to be a reapir mechanism, rather than one for texturing.

I wanted to understand, which would be the leading companies in the UK that provide repair and texturing services for steel mill rolls?

One such company that i am aware of is Texturing Technology UK....any idea of some others???

Plasma coating 45VFNS
Hi Gordon,
We have currently an application of the following:
450NS as a bond thickness 0.10 to 0.15mm
45VFNS total thickness of 0.21 to 0.29mm
Base metal is stainless steel thickness 0.8mm
Such part is used as a air force jet adjustable exhaust flaps.

Could you please confirm whether 45VFNS (which is also used as a bond) could be applied with no primary 450NS bond coating?

It appears that our powder regulator went down and both powder selection went wrong, therefore 45VFNS only has been applied.
Final thickness of 45VFNS is of 0.30mm.

Could you also confirm traction and abrasion values if known?

Thanks for your kind help
Laurent
