Annealing of plasma-sprayed WC-Co coating
Hi everyone!
When I read a paper named"Annealing of plasma-sprayed WC-Co coatingv",There are sentence "It was also observed that, at sufficiently high temperatures, ovulation of cracks into isolated pores occurred.
Fig. 5(a) is a micrograph of the coating annealed at
900 °C for 12h, showing the initial stage of crack
ovulation. Fig. 5(b), taken from the coating annealed at
1000 °C for 12 h, shows thatost of the cracks have transformed into pores as a result of the ovulation process.",I do not understand what is the mean of ",ovulation of cracks into isolated pores" and "vulation process"?Could you give me a detail explain ,pealse!

Hi Wang qun

Sign0016 to the Surface Engineering Forum.

Ovulation: Discharge of an egg (ovum or ovule) from the ovary.

I don't understand the use of this word here either Sad may be author trying to be "flowery" with words, poor translation whatever, it is poor English.

I think what is meant is that the cracks heal on long high temperature annealing, by diffusion or sintering effects.

I think this thread would be more suited to the Surface Engineering forum section and I will move it there for you. Also, if you don't mind, I will change Post subject from "RE: Ask for helping!" to "Annealing of plasma-sprayed WC-Co coating" so it makes the thread easier to find.

RE: Annealing of plasma-sprayed WC-Co coating
Ovulation is the process in a female's menstrual cycle by which a mature ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum. This is the most specific definition that I know about ovulation. I think the above article is referring to an ovulation study done not on human, maybe it is some kind of science experiment.

'Evolution,' perhaps?

I think the author of the paper probably meant propagation.

I was also wondering why on earth he was referring to ovulation! I should say that I have to agree with what Djewell proposes. After all, it is very much conceivable that ovulation does not make any sense in the context so it should certainly have to be propagation. IMAO!
