At one time, TRW made Titanium intake valves for automobile racing engines using 6 Al 4 V alloy.

The stems were coated with molybdenum sprayed via the oxyacyteline process - in fact it was the same type of wire sprayed moly used to coat the face of piston rings.

The coating had visible porosity and adhered very well when properly applied - there were no scuffing or wear problems to speak of.

It has been a while since the parts were produced by TRW in the USA this way.

I seem to recall that TRW's piston ring division ( at the time) sprayed the moly for TRW's valve division.
