I would like to know a suitable method for ceramic coating on graphite plates to withstand the thermal shocks at a temperature 1600 Deg. C.

we use plasma spray method to put ceramic coating(ZrO2-20%Y2O3) on graphite plates to withstand the thermal shocks at a temperature 1600 Deg. C.

A thermal spray alternative I would consider is combustion powder spray (flame spray) alumina (without cross jet accelerators). The coating is relatively porous and friable compared to other thermal spray methods, but these properties tend to be beneficial for this type of application.

Thank you for your reply.We tried flame spray method by using Alumina powder for a thickness of 200 microns and kept under observation.I will discuss further after the trials.
