I just aquired a flame gun that is probably quite old. It is called "METALSPRAY" gun, mfg. by Metalspray Co. Los angles. It has a wooden box along with 2 burners, several nozzels, wire drive speed gear sets, tool post adapter, tools etc. I picked it up for for zinc spraying. The 2 burners are for 1/16" & 1/8" wire, but the wire drive wheels appear to be for the 1/8" wire. Is there any chance at all of finding or modifying the drive wheels for 1/16" wire, or am I really wasting my time with this gun. Does anyone know anything about this gun. It it possible to post a pic on this forum ? We wanted to use the zinc application for repairing rusted sheetmetal on antique cars. We thought that 1/16" wire would be best, but would 1/8" suffice ? Also looking for someone who can supply smaller spools of zinc wire untill we can figure out what works best. A Flaming Friend....Byron

I think using 1/8 zinc wire would be best. 1/16 may be useful for the harder/higher melting point wires.

Many of the older guns are just as capable of producing good coatings, only problem is getting hold of spare parts.

Just remember the process is very noisy and produces dust and fumes that will make people sick if inhaled. Your substrate material will require thorough cleaning and grit blasting if you want your coatings to stick properly. If you are not familiar with the process, do some homework first

Thanks for your input on getting pic's on a forum. I can only download 1 pic, so I made it a large one. How small do the pic's have to be to get several on ? I'm familar with cleaning using grit media blasting, and the noise factor. I've been handed a Metco gun and layed on some metal, but have know knowledge on it's setup. Aquired a flamespraying manual, so hopefully I'll learn something. Here a pic of the gun I aquired. I'll start with 1/8" Zinc wire, as I think that this is what the gun is set up for.....Byron
