removing coatings
Hi forum!
How we can remove the old coating made by HVOF method from big squares (tanks, vessels)? Coating material - Stainless Steel. Thikness of coating is 150...200 micrometers. Hardness - 600...700 HV. Can we use the hydro abrasive equipment or hydro equipment of high pressure for this task? Thank you...

RE: removing coatings
Try manual grinding then sanblasting.
I think this method is the most economical. Panf Wrote:Hi forum!

Panf,
If you do have a high pressure waterjet system, you can use the waterjet to remove the coating, it's much faster & less labor intensive. Very much depend on your work piece size in this case. Grit blasting may violet EH&S requirement if it is carried out in open air, but if in a large chamber it shd be ok. Regards,

RE: removing coatings
Hi Panf
I agree with Alex that high pressure water jet is probably technically the best way, but as plasmajet1990 says the old grinding, hammer and chisel and blasting may be a cheaper though very labour intensive option for low volume coating removal. It will come down to how much coating removal you do and economics. Regards Gordon www.gordonengland.co.uk www.surfaceengineer.co.uk Photography Obsession

RE: removing coatings
I need remove coating from the inside of the vessels.
70...80 sqare meters. The time for this work is 1...2 days. Unfortunately productivity of the grit blasting is 0.5 sqare meters per hour. the equipment may be high cost, but the method must be low cost (minimal flow rate of abrasive, energy etc.)
